Thomas M.'s Story

Life i was born on Nov. 19, 1944 in Laplata, Md. at Physican Memorial Hospital now it's called Civista, at the time we lived in Indian Head, Md. where i spent the first 2 years of my life. then we moved to Mechanicsville, Md where i stayed until i got marrried in 1967, i married Jeanette Thompson of Compton,Md. and we moved to Brandywine, Md where we lived for 7 years, then we brought a house in 1976 in the then some what peaceful Waldorf, Md. and have been living here ever since, we have 4 children 3 girls Deanna, Lisa and Karen and a boy Thomas Michael, now we have 7 grandchildren of course 6 are girls and 1 boy, I had a stroke in 1995 and spent a month and a half in various hospitals i'm glad to say i have regained 80% of the use of my right side. I now i have 2 more children at home which i adore, there names are Angel & Precious (by the way they are felines). School i started out going to the first grade in a 2 room school in Mechanicsville, Md. 1 room for 1st grade to 3rd grade and 1 room for 4th grade to sixth grade, Then they built a new school Mechanicsville Elementary School which i attended from the second grade until i graduated the sixth grade and then went to Margaret Brent High School in Helen, Md. and started the seventh grade which i attended until i Graduated the twelve grade in 1962. College Never went to college Workplace After high school i went to work for Burch & Wise in Mechanicsville, Md working in the warehouse and left there and joined the Army for 3 years then went back to work for Burch & Wise in Mechanicsville then left there and went to work for Besche Oil Co. in Waldorf, Md. as a transport ...Expand for more
driver and then i left there and went to work for Amerada Hess Corp. in Washington, D.C. as a dispatcher and left there and went to work for Tri-County Oil Co. in LaPlata, Md. as a transport driver and left there and went to work for United Parcel Service in 1972 at Landover, Md working loading trailers at first then went to driving transports then they built a new building in Burtonsville, Md and was transfered there and then they built a building in Waldorf, Md. and was transfered there and then i retired in 1999 after 26 years with UPS. Military I joined the Army in 1963 and did basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C., from there i went to Fort Rucker, Alabama for training to be a helicopter mechanic, after finishing school there i went to Fort Dix, New Jersey for overseas transition and left there and was bused to New York and boarded a troop ship to BREMERHAVEN, Germany and went to GOEPPINGEN, Germany in late 1963 and was assigned to a Aviation detachment with the Headquarters Co. 504th Aviation Battlion, 4th Armored Division there working as a helicopter mechanic, from there i was transfered in 1964 to Furth Army Airfield (MONTEITH BARRACKS) in Furth,Germany to D Troop, 2nd Squadron, 4th Armored Division and was assigned a Huey UH-1B helicopter (Tail#63-8541)and was the crew chief on it, i stayed there until 1966 and went back to BREMERHAVEN, Germany and boarded another troop ship for the return trip to New York where i was discharged. I picked up my brand new 1966 Red Chevrolet Imapla convertible ( 325 hp & 4 speed trans.) in New York City that i had brought while i was in Germany and drove it home to Mechancsville, Maryland.
